Our typical interview process

Timelines and steps can vary by role and location, but here’s what most candidates experience.

  • Hiring team interviews
1–3 conversations (virtual or onsite) with potential teammates and the hiring manager. For Professional | Manager | Director Level roles, you can expect that there may be several steps in this process.
  • Role specific exercise (as needed)
For some roles, a brief case study, presentation, or skills assessment may be included.
  • Decision & offer
Your recruiter will connect on next steps and answer any questions.

How to prepare

We help clients discover and develop life‑changing therapies. Bring stories that connect your work to patient impact. Take time to review our mission, vision, and values before your interview. You’ll likely be asked how these resonate with you personally—and how they show up in the way you work.

Behavioral examples

Telling Your Story with Purpose

Our interviews are designed to get to know you—your experience, your problem-solving approach, and how you align with our mission to advance science and improve lives.

  • Prepare Relevant, Real-World Examples

In addition to exploring your background, we’ll often ask behavioral-based questions—think: “Tell me about a time when…” These questions help us understand how you’ve approached challenges, collaborated with others, and driven results in real situations.

  • Connect Your Experience to the Role

Before the interview, review the job posting and identify the key skills required for success. Then, reflect on past experiences—aim to have 10 or more examples ready that showcase how you've demonstrated those competencies. The stronger the connection between your stories and the role, the more clearly we’ll see your potential impact at Inotiv.Job Postings

Show Your Impact

At Inotiv, we’re driven by purpose and inspired by progress. To help you put your best foot forward during the interview process, we’ve put together a few tips that reflect how we approach our work—with clarity, accountability, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

  • Choose Impactful, Relevant Examples
Share stories that reflect your recent experiences and demonstrate your growth. Past roles are great to reference, but the most meaningful examples typically come from the last few years. Aim for variety to show your adaptability and range.
  • Speak to Challenges with Honesty and Insight
We value individuals who can learn from experience. If you’ve faced a difficult situation—like a missed deadline or a tough team dynamic—walk us through what happened, how you handled it, and what you’ve done differently since. Keep the focus on lessons learned and how you’ve grown, rather than on people or blame.
  • Communicate with Purpose
We want to hear your story, but we also want to make the most of our time together. Prepare ahead so you can share clear, concise examples that highlight your impact. Think of each response as a way to show how you solve problems, lead with integrity, and contribute to meaningful outcomes.

STAR Method

At Inotiv, we use the STAR method interviews to better understand how you’ve approached real-world challenges and opportunities. This structure helps you communicate clearly, while giving us insight into the skills and mindset you bring to your work. When responding, focus on specific situations rather than general statements.

  • Situation: Briefly set the stage. What was the context? Who was involved? When and where did it happen?
  • Task: Explain your responsibility or objective. What needed to be done? Were there any constraints like deadlines or resource limits?
  • Action: Walk us through the steps you took. This is your chance to show how you contributed—through leadership, creativity, problem-solving, or collaboration.
  • Result: Share the outcome. What happened as a result of your actions? If possible, include measurable results or what you learned along the way.

Example: Could you describe a time when you have solved a problem?

  • Situation: During my time working in customer service at Pharma Healthcare, I was often the first point of contact for customers with issues related to purchases or returns.
  • Task: One day, a customer came frustrated because they had purchased an over-the-counter medication that didn’t work for them, and they wanted a refund—but they had lost the receipt. Company policy required proof of purchase for returns, so I needed to find a way to help while still following procedure.
  • Action: I listened carefully and repeated their concerns back to them to make sure I understood. I considered a few options. First, I looked into processing a return without a receipt, but that wasn’t allowed due to system limitations and compliance regulations. Then I asked for the approximate date and time of the purchase and offered to check our transaction history to try and find the original sale. After a bit of searching, I was able to locate the transaction using their customer loyalty account. With that information, I was able to process an exchange for a different product that better suited their needs.
  • Result: The customer left happy and thanked me for taking the extra time to help. My manager later recognized me during our team huddle for turning a potentially negative experience into a positive one while staying within company policy. It helped build my confidence in handling tricky customer issues and showed me the value of staying calm and solution-focused.

Set up your space

For virtual interviews, test your connection, camera, and mic. Choose a quiet, well-lit location and join early.

Questions for us

Each conversation is an opportunity to learn more. Come prepared with one or two thoughtful questions for your interviewers (as time allows)—it shows curiosity, engagement, and initiative. Questions about benefits, compensation, or other logistics are best directed to your Talent Acquisition Partner, who’s happy to support you every step of the way.

Day‑of logistics

Onsite interviews

Your schedule and site address will be in your invite. Bring a government ID for check in.

Virtual interviews

Your virtual interview is an important step in getting to know one another. To help ensure a smooth and engaging experience, please review the following guidelines:

  • Platform: Microsoft Teams
You do not need to download the app to join your interview–a browser version will work just fine. However, downloading the free Microsoft Teams app in advance can help ensure a smoother experience. You can access it here: Free Microsoft Teams.
  • Technology check
Test your camera and microphone ahead of time to make sure everything is working properly.
  • Environment
Choose a quiet, distraction-free space where you can stay focused and fully present.
  • Camera use
We ask that your camera remain on throughout the interview. This helps us connect more personally and engage in a more natural conversation.

What should I wear to my interview?

Even if your interview is virtual, it’s natural to wonder what to wear. At Inotiv, our culture is casual and collaborative—but we still encourage a polished, professional appearance that helps you feel confident and comfortable.

  • For virtual interviews, business casual is the way to go. A suit isn’t necessary, and we recommend keeping it simple and professional. Choose an outfit that reflects your personality while allowing you to stay focused and engaged.
  • For onsite interviews, we encourage you to dress for the type of role you're applying for:
    • Animal facility or lab-based roles: Wear clean, professional clothing and comfortable, closed-toe shoes, as you may be touring the space or walking through active work areas.
    • Corporate or office-based roles: Business casual attire is appropriate. Think polished and professional, without needing to be overly formal.
    • We’d recommend comfortable shoes as there may be some walking involved depending on the location or tour.
  • Regardless of setting, we do not recommend jeans, open-toed shoes, ripped clothing, or printed t-shirts.
  • When in doubt, aim for clean, neutral, and job-appropriate. If you have questions, feel free to reach out to your Talent Acquisition Partner. We’re happy to help you feel prepared.
